Text Box: The Trip: Dave and a couple of the LITs, Chris and Abe took a scouting trip to Newfoundland late in August of 2005. After a full day’s drive to New Sidney Nova Scotia and a six hour ferry crossing (through the night) to Port aux Basques, Newfoundland, we traveled four more hours before reaching this magnificent park where we spent a few days exploring. We day hiked Mt. Gros Morne which offered up close sightings of 9 Bull Caribou on the tablelands and breath taking panoramic views of the mountain ranges and valleys. We also checked out the Green Gardens trail down to the ocean and the Trout River Pond Area. We spotted eight moose, along with a pod of porpoises. What we discovered was great opportunities for an adventuresome group to take a 2-3 day bushwhack from the Welcome Center on Wood Point to Green Gardens—which is being allowed for the first time in 2006. Or a group could choose a more difficult bushwhack, stretching 35Km from Western Brook Pond via the Long Range mountains to Mt. Gros Morne. Another possibility is to enjoy 2-3 days of paddling, exploring some inland and coastal waters by sea kayak, camping, and possibly fishing for Brook Trout. If you have a group interested in booking a trip to Gros Morne, we recommend July & August as the best time to go.

Length: We recommend a minimum of nine days, with travel to and from Newfoundland from Maine.

Difficulty: Depending on choice of activities. If you choose a back country bushwhacking experience, keep in mind that is may be quite demanding physically, as we would be off-trail for several days, with full packs.

Safety & Prevention: As with all our trips, we give very detailed instructions centered around the type of activity we will be involved with. We give clear guidelines for what's expected on the river/trail and around the campsite. We understand the great responsibility we have with your group and place a great emphasis on safety, prevention, and the well-being of all group members.

Best Time to Go: July or August, as the weather is usually warm and the bugs are minimal.

Ages: Teens 13 and up, adults

Cost: From $750.00 per person
