Text Box: Leadership, Safety and General Information

How do we arrive at a reasonable cost-per-camper without sacrificing professionalism? Compared to for-profit outfitters and camps, Living Waters offers quality and professionally led trips for a whole lot less money. As with the overall ministry of Living Waters, we charge about half (or less) of what it costs to run the wilderness ministry. Some of the not so obvious costs are insurance, advertising, mailing, traveling to do promotional work, and transportation to and from the trip (vans, trucks, canoe trailers). Camping fees charged by large land owners, the state, or reserves in Canada can really add up! For example, a 10 day Allagash trip for 12 people cost approximately $550. This only covers campsite and day use fees charged by the State of Maine and large landowners. Entering these regions with out-of-state license plates causes the price to increase. Equipment is expensive, and over time, has to be replaced (canoes, paddles, life jackets, tents, First Aid supplies, etc.). Additionally, Living Waters helps our volunteer leaders with a small ‘love gift’ at summer’s end.

What special equipment do I need? There is no need to go out and spend a fortune on special equipment. All you need is your personal clothing, quality hiking boots (for backpacking trips), and a sleeping bag. We will send a complete personal gear list upon request when you sign up for a trip.
