Text Box: Leadership, Safety and General Information

Leadership & Safety: This is an important aspect of our program. Each summer, Living Waters conducts a Trip Leaders Training Course with extensive training in canoeing, wilderness travel, and campsite procedures. Prerequisites include training and certification in CPR, First Aid, and water safety. As a result of our detailed training in safety and prevention, we are staffed with well-qualified trip leaders who understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment. This standard is followed in our day to day operation. Every youth trip is led by two or more adults with at least a five to one ratio. Each trip has at least one Certified Trip Leader trained and registered with the State of Maine. We not only require for our trip leaders to have a Trip Leaders License, but they also must prove that they have the ability and experience to qualify them to be put in such a position of responsibility. Some of our veteran leaders have been involved for numerous summers and are also Registered Maine Guides. Participants also receive proper training in safe canoemanship, wilderness travel and campsite procedures. The safety and well-being of everyone is of utmost importance while they are under our supervision. Meet your staff

Equipment: We provide all canoeing and camping equipment necessary to make your trip comfortable and safe. Our inventory includes: durable Old Town Canoes, Mad River and Mohawk Play Boats, type III life jackets, paddles, Eureka Timberline Tents, group tarp, cooking and eating utensils, and First Aid kits.

Facilities (Wilderness Center): All scheduled trips start and end at Living Waters, and often include a night or two stay at our facilities. We provide dormitory housing for these nights, supervised by mature staff. Our new Wilderness Center can accommodate up to 14 people. If more accommodations are needed, extra room is available in our residential camp dormitory rooms during most weeks. Adults have the option of making arrangements to stay at our Mountain View Retreat facility with cabins that can accommodate up to 15 people each, and a duplex that holds up to six each.

Meals: All food is provided for your outing while on the adventure part of the trip, however, we ask that you take care of any on-the-road meals to and from your trip. While at camp, meals are served in our dining hall, where every attention is given to making meals nutritious and well balanced. While on trips, campers share in the responsibility of food preparation and cooking. We provide a menu with high nutritional value. Careful thought goes into food planning and preparation. The proper care and storage of food is strictly followed.

Transportation: Transportation to and from the trip is provided by Living Waters

Climbing Tower: New in 2007! Take advantage of our new climbing tower and low elements course to promote teamwork, trust, and self confidence prior to heading out on your trip.
