Text Box: The Trip: There are numerous starting and ending points in this region. We can design anywhere from a 3-7 day trip in duration. Here are a few options:

1) Allagash region—Whetstone Falls (57 miles). Start in the Allagash region and travel out the ‘back door’ of the Allagash by heading east and south down Webster Stream. This offers a remote back-country class II-III stream trip. Continue down the East Branch of the Penobscot to Wetstone Falls. This trip includes 6 or more mandatory portages (longest being about 3/4’s of a mile). This is a dam controlled waterway and there is usually a sufficient flow through the summer to permit a canoe trip.

2) Telos thoroughfare—Matagamon (30 miles). Start from the Telos thoroughfare in the Allagash to the public landing on Matagamon Lake. This trip would include travel in the Allagash Wilderness Waterway, Baxter State Park, and the East Branch of the Penobscot waterways. Group size is strictly limited to 12 people max in AAW and BSP. Camping fees charged by the North Maine Woods, AWW, and BSP add up.

3) Johnson Pond—Whetstone Falls (87 miles). This is a week-long trip, starting at Johnson Pond in the AWW, and ending at Whetstone Falls on the East Branch of the Penobscot.

**With the West Branch of the Penobscot Region being close by, this is a great trip to add on whitewater rafting , climbing Mt. Katahdin, or rock climbing before or after the canoeing portion of the trip. Add $35 for each additional day, $60 for rock climbing, and $75.00 for a day of class III-V whitewater rafting on the West Branch of the Penobscot River. For ages 14-up. Maximum group size— with our leaders — 12.

Length: 30— 87 miles—depending upon route

Difficulty: A physically demanding trip with numerous portages. Class II-III whitewater.

Safety & Prevention: We give very detailed instructions. We teach the basics of canoeing, and give clear guidelines for what's expected on the river and around the campsite. We understand the great responsibility we have with the group and place a great emphasis on safety, prevention, and the well-being of group members.
