Text Box: The Trip: One of the longest and more remote trips west of the Mississippi! The Allagash draws people from all over the US and is a true wilderness canoe trip through the heart of the Maine wilderness. The Allagash is truly an unforgettable experience and is our best trip for spotting lots of moose! Our 6 day trip starts out at Churchill Lake, allowing plenty of ‘in camp’ time. When we offer it, our 10 day trip starts at Allagash Stream, or if the water level is too low, we’ll start at the Chamberlain/Telos Thoroughfare. Camp sites are well maintained with clean outhouses. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table.

Length: Our 6 day trip will include 6 days and 5 nights on the river, traveling a total of 63 miles by canoe. Our 10 day trip will include 9 nights and 10 days, traveling a total distance of approx. 98 miles by canoe.

Difficulty: The itinerary is more on the leisurely side, although occasionally we may experience a long day’s paddle. Both trips offer running Chase Stream Rapids (class II rapid) and are well-suited for beginners.

Safety & Prevention: The Allagash Wilderness Waterway is a well traveled area and is maintained by the Maine Department of Conservation. There are numerous park rangers that live and work along the waterway and, in the case of an emergency, help is usually a few hours away. We give very detailed instructions. We teach the basics of canoeing and give clear guidelines for what's expected on the river and around the campsite. We understand the great responsibility we have with your young person and place a great emphasis on safety, prevention, and the well-being of your child.

Best Time to Go: May-September. Mid to late summer the weather is usually warm and the bugs are minimal.

Ages: Scheduled trips in 2010 are for ages 13-18 or book a trip for your group for ages 12 and up. This is a great outing for Parents and their children. You may want to round up a group from your church and book an outing on this waterway.

Additional Costs: Campers will want a small amount of pocket money for a snack on the way in and for a fast food meal in Fort Kent once we get off the river. Campers may choose to rent equipment at a minimal cost. We also sell camp T-shirts and offer pictures on CDs at a reasonable cost.
residents ages 12 and older.
